Honoring a National Icon: The Year 9 Assembly on Dato’ Sri Siti Nurhaliza

The GIIS KL Auditorium became a hub of inspiration on the morning of January 13, 2026, as Year 9 students gathered for an insightful assembly dedicated to Malaysia’s National Songstress, Dato’ Sri Siti Nurhaliza. The session highlighted how an individual’s talent, values, and leadership can transcend the stage to create a lasting, positive impact on society. By celebrating her journey as a "Biduanita Negara," the assembly emphasized the importance of using one's influence responsibly to foster sustainable development and encourage students to become socially responsible, globally minded citizens.

The event featured a comprehensive presentation that honored Dato’ Sri Siti Nurhaliza’s remarkable career, her numerous international awards, and her profound influence on Malaysia’s cultural identity. Students were treated to a screening of the iconic "Cindai" music video, which served as a powerful tribute to Malaysian traditional music and the preservation of national heritage. This showcase of the arts aligned perfectly with Gem 3 (Skills Development) of the 9Gems framework, illustrating the beauty of visual and performing arts as a medium for cultural storytelling.

Beyond her musical achievements, the assembly explored her role as a transformative leader and a champion of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. As a role model for SDG 4 (Quality Education), she supports underprivileged students through Yayasan Nurjiwa, promoting lifelong learning and personal development. Her success as a pioneering female artist and entrepreneur also embodies SDG 5 (Gender Equality), inspiring young girls to pursue their ambitions with confidence. Furthermore, through her cosmetic business SimplySiti, she contributes to SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) by promoting ethical practices and supporting local suppliers.

The assembly also addressed her contributions to SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions) and SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities), noting how her music fosters unity and respect across diverse communities. By integrating universal values and ethics (Gem 7) with a deep sense of community care (Gem 8), the presentation showed that true success is measured by one's contribution to the greater good. Ultimately, the session left the Year 9 students with a clear message on how excellence and integrity can build sustainable cities and communities (SDG 11) for the future.
